Grimes Shares "California" Video: Watch

Grimes has released the video for her Art Angels song “California.” However, the song featured in the video is an alternate version. Directed by Claire Boucher with her brother Mac, the clip features Grimes in an art studio, on stage, and in a gym, wearing a variety of colorful outfits. Making cameo appearances are Mac, Purity Ring’s Megan James, HANA, Born Gold, and model Eric Cheng. Previously, Grimes released the visual for “Kill V. Maim” and a combo video for “Flesh Without Blood/Life in the Vivid Dream.” Watch the “California” video below.

Update (5:24 p.m. ET): Grimes took to Twitter this afternoon to offer an explanation for using an alternate version of “California” in the visual—it was “dissonant” with the original track, and failed to elicit visuals in her mind. Here’s what she said:

had to re do track because when I looked at the footage it was dissonant w the original song, song elicits no visuals in my mind naturally
