Gucci Mane Gives Candid ESPN Interview on PTSD, Addiction, Life-Changing Prison Reads

Gucci Mane recently sat down with ESPN’s “Highly Questionable” for a candid conversation about his history of drug abuse, his prison sentence, how he looks back on his early career success, and more. At the beginning of the interview, Gucci admitted that up until recently, his experience in music was a “blur” defined by “violence and paranoia and drugs.” He compared his career from 2012-2015 to “war,” and that he experienced “post-traumatic stress” as a result. 

Later in the interview, he talked at length about how his heavy usage of lean affected his mind and body. When asked if he was surprised that his extensive drug use didn’t kill him, Gucci replied, “Yes, 100 percent. I’m blessed, man, to even be here today.” He also noted that reading James Allen’s 1903 book As a Man Thinketh in prison helped him overcome his addiction. You can watch the interview below. 

Last November, Gucci was a guest on ESPN’s “His and Hers,” where he discussed his prison mixtapes, Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles, and more. Gucci’s most recent album was The Return of East Atlanta Santa. In 2016, he also released Everybody Looking, Woptober, Free Bricks 2: Zone 6 Edition (with Future), and 1017 vs. the World (with Lil Uzi Vert).
