Guy Clark Dead at 74

Country singer Guy Clark has died. He was 74 years old, and passed away in Nashville this morning, as The Tennessean reports. The cause of death was a long illness.

Clark was born in Monahans, Texas, on November 6, 1941. After moving to Nashville in the early ’70s, he became a significant figure in the modern country movement, along with his wife Susanna Clark and close friend Townes Van Zandt. While his songs were initially recorded by other artists, he recorded a debut album, 1975′s Old No. 1, whose songs such as “That Old Time Feeling” and “Desperados Waiting For the Train” marked him as a performer in his own right. He continued to record albums, while writing high-charting songs for other artists. His songs would be performed by country musicians such as Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and many more.

In recent years, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2014, he won a Grammy for Best Folk Album for My Favorite Picture of You.
