Hillary Clinton on “The Breakfast Club”: Stevie Wonder Sings “Happy Birthday,” Clinton Jokes About Death Row Records Meme

Today is Hillary Clinton’s 69th birthday. With less than two weeks until election day, the presidential nominee stopped by “The Breakfast Club” for a wide-ranging interview that touched on the history of women in presidential politics, the legacy of Barack Obama’s presidency, Donald Trump, Jay Z’s support of her presidential campaign, gun control, memes, the term “deadass,” and more. The interview included a surprise appearance from Stevie Wonder, who chatted about his support for Clinton and serenaded her with a performance of “Happy Birthday” (his song, not the standard). Wonder wore a jacket decorated with pro-Clinton slogans and imagery; “Breakfast Club” host Charlamagne Tha God joked that it “looked like 2 Chainz designed it.” You can watch the entire interview below; Wonder shows up around the 21:10 mark.

During the course of the interview, Clinton told the “The Breakfast Club” that she’d like to continue President Obama’s level of community outreach, saying he made the White House “the people’s house.” Charlamagne added that he saw Obama dancing to Drake at a recent White House event. They all agreed that Obama had some moves.

Host Angela Yee brought up Jay Z’s upcoming performance at an a Ohio campaign event. “I’m thrilled to have his support because I think one of the biggest jobs that I will face—assuming everything goes well—is how are we going to heal all these divides,” Clinton said. (The National, Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, and more are also slated to perform at campaign events in the coming weeks.)

Later in the interview, Charlamagne helped Hillary brush up on Internet culture by explaining a few memes. First he shared a meme with her that compared Clinton’s recent debate outfits to classic looks from Tupac, Suge Knight, and Snoop Dog. “I think Death Row, and a lot of other fashion sources, have influenced my look,” Hillary joked.

Charlamagne then explained the word “deadass” to Clinton and showed her a meme in support of her campaign with the caption “I need your votes deadass.”

Earlier this year, Clinton sat down with the “The Breakfast Club” to talk about her love of hot sauce and Beyoncé
