Jack White Launches "Third-D" Virtual Reality App
In 2014, Jack White has spoken at Yale, started a publishing imprint, released holographic vinyl, and been turned into gelato. Now, we’ll be able to experience him in virtual reality. White has announced the Third-D app, which allows fans to watch some of his performances in “immersive 360 degree, stereoscopic 3D” using Google Cardboard, a DIY virtual reality player that’s compatible with Android phones. Performances of “Freedom at 21″, “Ball and Biscuit” from his recent Fenway Park show, and “Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground”, from his recent Red Rocks show, will be available to watch. The app can be downloaded now, if one has a Google Cardboard player on hand.
If you happen to live in Nashville, and don’t want to go to the trouble of building a Google Cardboard player, the Third Man Records store will be giving away limited edition Third Man Google Cardboard headsets to the first 75 Android users who purchase the ultra version of White’s Lazaretto LP on December 10. The app will be demonstrated in store, as well.
