James Van Der Beek to Play Diplo in New TV Show “What Would Diplo Do?”

Viceland has announced a new TV series starring and written by James Van Der Beek, Deadline reports. Its working title is “What Would Diplo Do?,” and features Van Der Beek as a fictionalized version of the titular DJ–a “guy who can bring 60,000 people to their feet… but kind of sucks one-on-one.” The show is described as “‘Louie’ meets WorldStarHipHop crossed with This Is Spinal Tap.

In addition to his starring role, Van Der Beek executive produced the show, as did Diplo. Oscar-winning director (and Viceland co-president) Spike Jonze is “shepherding” the program. Production on “WWDD?” is set to begin next month, with a premiere planned for later this year.

The idea for “WWDD?” stemmed from a Mad Decent Block Party promo video where Van Der Beek portrayed Diplo. Revisit the clip, called “Day in the Life of Diplo,” below.
