Jeezy and Janelle Monáe Team Up for Politically-Charged "Sweet Life" Video

Jeezy has released the black-and-white video for “Sweet Life,” his collaboration with Janelle Monáe off last year’s Church in These Streets. Matt Barnes’ visual touches on issues of police brutality, mass incarceration, and hip hop’s role in mainstream culture. It premiered on CNN this morning.

In a statement given to CNN, Jeezy said:

Ever since I came into this music game, I’ve tried to make motivational music, whether you’re on the corner hustling or in the corner office making power moves. “Sweet Life” is no different, but it’s a bit more of a personal track because I rap about my own trials and tribulations. I wanted this video, with Janelle Monáe, to show what could have happened to me and does happen to African Americans every day.

Jeezy tweeted today that he intentionally timed the release of the “Sweet Life” clip to coincide with Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday:

New video alert!! Today is a special day, so why not a special video. MLK day, a true leader #sweetlife pic.twitter.com/qm0L8yXLFq
