Joey Bada$$ Says He Missed Playing Obama’s Best Friend in a Movie Because of Coachella

Earlier this year, it was announced that Joey Bada$$ had joined the cast of USA’s Golden Globe-winning drama “Mr. Robot.” Ahead of tonight’s Season 2 premiere, Joey spoke with Rolling Stone about his nascent acting career. He revealed, among other things, that he was cast in an upcoming biopic about Barack Obama called Barry, but he couldn’t participate because he was playing Coachella during filming. He explained, “I was supposed to be his best friend. I was the guy who was supposed to show him the projects, and show him how black people was living in America at the time.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Joey said he has been acting since high school, where he performed in a student-written play called John Cusack Is Not a Famous Actor, as well as a student’s rendition of Alice in Wonderland. He also elaborated further on his “Mr. Robot” character, Leon, a friend of the protagonist who is obsessed with “Seinfeld.” Read the full interview here, and check out a clip of a young Joey Bada$$ in John Cusack Is Not a Famous Actor below.
