Jóhann Jóhannsson to Score New Blade Runner Sequel

Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been tapped to score the new, Denis Villeneuve-directed Blade Runner sequel, Iceland Monitor reports. Jóhann, whose Theory of Everything score was nominated for an Academy Award and won a Golden Globe in 2015, revealed the news during an interview on Iceland’s RÚV radio station. The film is slated for an October 6, 2017 release.

Jóhann and Villeneuve have worked together in the past. He scored the director’s 2015 film Sicario, which earned a Best Original Score nomination at the Academy Awards. He also scored Villeneuve’s upcoming film Arrival, which is set for a U.S. release on November 11.

The Blade Runner sequel will star Harrison Ford (reprising his role as Rick Deckard from Ridley Scott’s 1982 original), Ryan Gosling, Jared Leto, and more. Villeneuve has said that it will take place in a future Los Angeles, several decades after the original.
