Kanye, Jay Z, Vic Mensa Get Marvel Comic Book Covers

Kanye West, Jay Z, and Vic Mensa are the latest artists to have their album artwork used as the inspiration for Marvel variant comic book covers. A new cover for Mighty Captain Marvel #1 is based on The Life of Pablo; Jay’s American Gangster has been remixed for Elektra #1; and Vic’s There’s Alot Going On inspired a new Bullseye #1 variant. See the covers (designed by Jenny Frison, Keron Grant, and Tim Bradstreet, respectively) below, via Complex.

Since the initial Run the Jewels variants back in 2015, Marvel has made new comic book covers based a great number of hip-hop albums. So far, the publisher has based covers on: Dr. Dre’s Compton, De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising, Tyler, the Creator’s Wolf, Kevin Gates’ Islah, Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a ButterflyLil B’s Black Flame, and many others. Last year, Marvel released a book compiling some of the covers.

See where The Life of Pablo and its songs placed on Pitchfork’s “The 50 Best Albums” and “The 100 Best Songs of 2016,” respectively.
