Update (2/12, 12:42 a.m.): Apparently, TMZ’s sources are mistaken—Swift’s spokesperson has shared a statement (via Jon Caramanica) saying that West did not ask for her approval and that she “cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message.” Apparently she wasn’t aware of the “made that bitch famous” line at all. Read the statement below.

Update (2/12 9:08 a.m.): According to Kanye, Swift did in fact approve the lyrics, after an “hour long convo.” Not only that–he says Swift inadvertantly came up with them. Read his tweets below.

When Kanye West played his new album The Life of Pablo at Madison Square Garden earlier today, one line from “Famous” stuck out right away: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ I made that bitch famous.” It sounds like an uncomfortable reference to Taylor Swift, but according to TMZ, Swift approved the line in advance.

I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her…

Apparently, West called her to explain that it was a joke. According to TMZ’s sources, Swift gave him her approval to release the song with that line.

Not everybody in Swift’s camp are OK with the line. Shortly after West’s streaming concert event, Swift’s brother Austin shared a video of him throwing his Yeezy Boosts in the trash:

Getting a head start on some spring cleaning. Here we go again.

West famously interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs, and then during the 2015 VMAs, the two of them seemed to make up.
