Kanye West Says New Album is 80 Percent Done, Plots Surprise Release

This morning, Kanye West stopped by Power 105.1′s Breakfast Club for an extensive interview. In addition to addressing his Grammy stage-storming (an incident West said was largely rooted in class issues), he blessed listeners with a few details regarding his highly anticipated Yeezus follow-up. According to West, the album is 80% finished, and will be comprised of “bars, songs, [and] cookout music that just feels good”. He explained, “My last album was a protest to music, I was like ‘I’m gonna take my ball and go home’…This album is embracing the music, joy. Being of service to the people. I just hope people like it and enjoy it.”

Don’t hold your breath for a release date – ‘Ye says the album’s release will come as a surprise. Other topics touched upon in the interview include Disney (“Thank you for Frozen,” said West), his meme-ified argument with Sway, and wife Kim Kardashian’s “internet-breaking” PAPER cover.

At one point, West offered an update on his run-in with Beck. Apparently, he’s got the musician’s number, and he’ll give him a call one of these days, although he still stands by his previously-stated contentions. He also argued that the incident gave Beck some publicity:

I got his [Beck's] number and I was supposed to call, but I just keep forgetting…I felt good for him. Think of all the good stuff that happened to me in the last eight days. The person that won was Beck, because if I hadn’t done that, his Album of the Year would’ve never been mentioned…He should win an award for what he did—Rock Album—but he shouldn’t have won that award.

West also explained his new single “Wolves”, and teased news of a pending Young Thug collaboration:

The song came from a conversation me and Drake had where we were supposed to do an album together—it was supposed to be called Wolves…we said we was gonna do it, he was sending beats back and forth. I got this one record with Young Thug that I’m gonna put on the Rihanna album…It might happen because I threw that out there, but he [Young Thug] probably be mad that I mention it on your show because he dislike y’all so much.
