Kevin Gates Shares New Song “What If”: Listen

Kevin Gates has shared his first new song since he was convicted back in October for kicking a woman in the crowd during his show. The song is called “What If.” On it, Gates interpolates Joan Osborne’s 1995 single “One of Us,” echoing her “What if God was one of us?” query. Whereas Osborne asked if He’s a “just a slob like one of us,” however, Gates wonders if He’s a “just a thug like one of us.” Listen below. Last year, Gates was sentenced to 180 days in prison on a battery charge after one day of testimony. He claimed that he kicked 18-year-old Miranda Dixon in self-defense after she grabbed his legs multiple times. A few weeks ago, he was held in prison the day he was schedule to be released when authorities found an outstanding weapons-related warrant. Last year, Gates released Islah and Murder For Hire 2.
