Killer Mike “Cool With” Bill Maher After Controversial Remarks

Killer Mike has taken to Twitter to discuss his reaction to Bill Maher’s use of a racist slur during last night’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher.” Mike (who has appeared several times on the show) explained that he is “cool with” Bill Maher and wrote, “My end goal is true freedom and not exhausting my life mad at white people when I can love my life loving black people.” Throughout the conversation, he reiterates his belief in the first amendment and argues that there are more important issues to discuss, including “Black Banks, Gentrification, Economics & Trade Education.” He also explains that he finds fault with Maher’s remarks, but not in a way that makes him “emotionally moved to rage.” Find his tweets below.

Many voices on social media sought a call to action following Maher’s controversial remarks. Chance the Rapper tweeted about the issue, asking HBO to cancel Maher’s show. Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson tweeted a similar response, writing that Maher has “got to go” and adding, “There are no explanations that make this acceptable.”

Maher has since apologized for his comments: “The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry,” he said in a statement. HBO also issued an apology, saying Maher’s remarks were “completely inexcusable and tasteless” and that they would be removed from future airings of the episode.
