London Club Fabric License Revoked, Will Close

The London nightclub Fabric closed voluntarily last month after two 18-year-old attendees died of drug overdoses in the span of nine weeks. Its license was then suspended and put up for review. Tonight, after hours of testimony and deliberation at the club’s license review, the Islington Council revoked Fabric’s license, Mixmag reports. “A culture of drugs exists at the club which management cannot control,” said a member of the council. The club will remain closed. 

Fabric’s owners have the option to appeal the decision. Alan Miller, chair of the Night Time Industries Association, promised to start the Fund For Fabric to raise funds to help the nightclub fight the decision. “This is not the last word,” Miller said.

Following the club’s initial closure, a petition was launched to help keep the club alive, and London mayor Sadiq Khan urged officials to come to a “common sense solution.”
