Lorde Writes Long Update on New Album

Lorde turns 20 today. Last night, as the clock struck midnight, she wrote a long note on her Facebook, offering an update on her heavily-anticipated sophomore record. She writes that her 2013 debut “Pure Heroine was [her] way of enshrining our teenage glory, putting it up in lights forever so that part of [her] never dies.” The new record, in contrast, “is about what comes next.” Elsewhere in the post, Lorde reflects on being out of the spotlight, moving to New York City, and more. She closes, “What I’m trying to say is: This is a special birthday. The party is about to start. I am about to show you the new world.” Read the full note below.

Lorde’s birthday update follows an August Instagram post where she discussed her next LP. At the time, she said it was “in the production stages,” and that she has “worked like a dog for a year making this thing great.”
