Lupe Fiasco Reviews His Own Album, Gives It 7 Out of 10

Lupe Fiasco’s new album DROGAS Light is out today (via 1st & 15th/Thirty Tigers). Wasting no time, he’s shared “The only review of DROGAS Light that matters… …Lupe’s 😏.” He isn’t entirely easy on himself either, giving the record a 7 out of 10. Lupe calls the album “somewhat of a mixed bag,” and explains that it “is a refinement of Lasers. Period.” He also says that the album “is more of a curation of pre-existing material which shared similar properties,” full of songs “from the vaults” and just “a few new pieces.” Nevertheless, he writes, “DROGAS Light still possesses the classic Lupe direct social commentary and imaginative storytelling which solidified his place in the game so many years ago.” Read his full review below.

Within the review, Lupe promises that a new album, DROGAS, is coming in the next few months. Back in 2015, he had said a record with that title would come out as part of a trilogy of 2016 LPs that never culminated due to “clearances and mixing issues.”

Revisit Pitchfork’s review of 2015’s Tetsuo & Youth, which Lupe called a “masterpiece” in his review today.

The lyrics on promise are Meh AF…that’s atleast two points deducted off top…and another point for not putting “Nietzsche” on the album😔 https://t.co/bMyW6jXei4
