M83′s New Album Is Finished

M83‘s last album was 2011′s excellent Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. In the interim, Anthony Gonzalez scored 2013′s Oblivion, reissued his older records, and collaborated with the Killers, Haim, and Jean-Michel Jarre.

At last, they’ve finished work on a new album. Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who worked on Hurry Up, tweeted this afternoon: “A new M83 album is now finished. I’m very happy with it.” 

The band is also scheduled to play a handful of festivals in 2016. Find those dates below.

Update (3:15 p.m.): In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gonzalez talked about the new record. He described it as “very epic,” and said it’s “quite different” from M83′s previous albums. He also said the record is influenced by ’70s and ’80s TV shows like “Who’s the Boss” and “Punky Brewster”, that it features “unexpected” guests, and that keyboardist/vocalist Morgan Kibby (who played on Hurry Up and 2008′s Saturdays=Youth) wasn’t involved. 

“It’s more fun and fresh than my last album,” he said. “But it’s good to take your listeners into a different maze, you know?”
