Mark Kozelek Sings About “Jerking Off to Pokémon” on New Anti-Trump Song: Listen

Earlier this year, Sun Kil Moon and Jesu released their debut collaborative album. Today, they’ve shared a new song as part of the anti-Donald Trump program 30 Days, 30 Songs. It’s called “The Greatest Conversation Ever in the History of the Universe.” Mark Kozelek opens by singing, “Laurie Anderson hugged me last night and it was a dream.” (Both artists performed at a Lou Reed tribute concert in July, and Kozelek recalls the concert later in the song.) Kozelek also sings about shootings in the United States and at the Bataclan in Paris. Later, he addresses Trump:

And Trump is all over the TV/Let’s face it, we asked for this fuck because we’ve been surpassed by technology/We’ve had our heads up our asses, sendin’ selfies ’round the planet/And getting run over by cars while we jerk off to Pokéman, mon/So here’s this motherfucker spouting off, and if you think you took no part/In this place in this world, then you’re fired/’Cause you’ve not been paying attention, and your apprenticeship has expired

Listen to “The Greatest Conversation Ever in the History of the Universe” below. It follows new anti-Trump songs by from EL VY, Filthy FriendsDeath Cab for CutieFranz FerdinandJim James, Aimee Mann, and more. By Election Day (Tuesday, November 8), the program will have released 40 new anti-Trump tracks. The entirety of 30 Days’ proceeds will go to the Center for Popular Democracy and their efforts toward Universal Voter Registration for all Americans.
