Mark Kozelek Wrote Music for James Franco Film, Didn’t Know Franco Was Involved

Mark Kozelek (aka Sun Kil Moon) has provided the music for an upcoming film called Pretenders, which stars and is directed by James Franco. However, after confirming that he wrote the film’s music, Kozelek’s representative told Pitchfork, “Mark wasn’t aware that James Franco is now directing.” The singer/songwriter was reportedly approached by Josh Boone, the film’s writer, to do the music “a while back.” The project was then delayed, and late last year, Franco was announced as the new director. Kozelek hadn’t heard anything from the production recently, his rep said. In short, new Kozelek music will appear in a James Franco film even though Kozelek didn’t know that Franco was involved.

Pretenders is set in New York City in the 1980s. It’s a love story about two college friends who fall in love with the same girl, and it stars Jack Kilmer, Shameik Moore, and Jane Levy, THR reports.

Kim Gordon recently revealed that she also scored a film for Franco, though she said that she wasn’t sure what will come of the project. She called the movie “problematic, I think.”
