Martin Shkreli’s Wu-Tang Event at Webster Hall Canceled

Martin Shkreli—the infamous former hedge fund manager, pharmaceutical company CEO, and Collect Records associate who increased the price of Daraprim and infamously paid millions for an unreleased, one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang Clan album—has announced on his Facebook that he will play tracks from the album at an event on Monday, February 20 at New York’s Webster Hall. An event page noted that Shkreli will “play tracks from his unreleased music collection (Wu-Tang and more)” in addition to giving an hour-long lecture on “investing, healthcare and politics” followed by a Q&A session. While a representative for Webster Hall previously confirmed to Pitchfork that the event would take place, the event has now been canceled. “Officially, it is not happening,” a representative from the venue said. They offered no further comment.

Since Shkreli’s purchase of the Wu-Tang album, members of the group have openly criticized him. Following Trump’s election, he premiered samples from the album and claimed to be negotiating terms for a wider release.
