Mastodon's Brent Hinds Designs Signature Epiphone Guitar

Mastodon’s Brent Hinds has teamed up with Epiphone for his own signature guitar. His Flying-V Custom model features a glossy black-white finish, topped off with Hinds’ skull logo. Find a photo of it below. More photos, along with technical specifications, can be found here. To go along with the announcement, Hinds has shared a goofy promotional video that sees him touting the guitar’s perks while chopping wood, climbing up the side of a house, and of course, giving the instrument a test drive. Check it out below.

Hinds first hinted at the collaboration with Epiphone in January 2015, when he uploaded a photo of a prototype model to his Instagram. In the post, he appeared to diss fellow guitar company Gibson. “Dealing with ‘Gibson’ trying to get this signature series thing to happen with their custom shop proved impossible given the nature of how difficult and flaky the people at Gibson custom shop are,” he wrote. “Thanks Epiphone for finally coming thru … Gibson you will not be getting thanked by me as you guys are a bunch of wankers.”

Update (6:11 p.m.): In other Mastodon news, drummer Brann Dailor will play with the 8G Band (the house band for “Late Night With Seth Meyers”) this week. Fred Armisen leads the band. Last week, Carlos D (formerly of Interpol) played bass with the 8G Band.

Watch Mastodon’s “The Motherload” video (off their 2014 effort Once More ’Round The Sun) and read our interview with the band’s Brann Dailor about it.
