Minneapolis Venue First Avenue to Host All-Night Prince Dance Party

First Avenue was first immortalized as the setting for much of Prince’s legendary film “Purple Rain,” but the Minneapolis venue was also the site of many a Prince concert throughout his career. In the wake of today’s tragic news, the Twin Cities rock club has announced that it will be hosting an all-night dance party, with three DJs playing Prince tracks all night long. The party begins at 11 p.m. and there will be no cover charge. “He grew up on this stage, and then commanded it, and he united our city,” the representatives of the venue said in a statement via Facebook. “It is difficult to put into words the impact his death will have on the entire music community, and the world. As the tragic news sinks in, our thoughts are with Prince’s family, friends, and fans. We deeply mourn the loss of our friend, a true star. Rest in peace and power Prince.” Update (04/21 07:53 p.m.): First Avenue will be hosting additional all-night parties on Friday and Saturday as well.
