Minutemen, Wilco, Deerhoof Members Announce Album From New Band Big Walnuts Yonder

Big Walnuts Yonder—a new band comprised of bassist/vocalist Mike Watt (Minutemen, the Stooges), guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco, Nels Cline Singers), drummer Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), and guitarist/vocalist Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos)—have announced their debut album. The self-titled album is out May 5 via Sargent House. The first offering from the release is a new song called “Raise the Drawbridges?”—find the track, tracklist, and cover art below.

The idea for Big Walnuts Yonder began in 2008 when Watt and Reinhart toured together in Japan, later enlisting Cline who insisted Reinhart pick the drummer (Saunier). But they didn’t play any music together until six years later. The album was recorded in just three days in summer 2014 in Brooklyn, NY with former Pere Ubu bassist Tony Maimone as engineer. “It was this concentrated sort of freakout,” Saunier said of the sessions in a press release. “We basically had to invent a new band on the spot.” In 2010, Mike Watt and Nels Cline formed a new group with Yuka Honda and Dougie Bowne called Floored by Four.
