Misfits’ Jerry Only Explains Reunion With Glenn Danzig

Misfits' Jerry Only Explains Reunion With Glenn Danzig

Earlier this week, Glenn Danzig announced he would return to the Misfits at this year’s Riot Fest. Danzig hasn’t been a member of the band since its initial breakup in 1983, forming his own band, Danzig, in 1987. Now Misfits bassist Jerry Only is opening up about the reunion, suggesting it was never as far-fetched as fans thought. “We were never not friends,” he told Rolling Stone. “We were just adversaries. Larry Bird might not have liked Michael Jordan on the court, but when they go out to a bar they’re cool.”

The two musicians have long battled over the rights to the Misfits brand. Only said the latest litigations opened up a dialogue that subsequently led to the band’s reformation. “We went in there wanting to cut each other’s throats. It was turning into another court battle and it turned into a reunion. We walked out the door knowing we were going to play together. It’s a very cool thing.” Only and Danzig will be joined on stage at Riot Fest by long-time guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, who has occasionally played in both Misfits and Danzig since the 1983 split.
