Modest Mouse's Next Album Due in 2016, Will Feature Nirvana's Krist Novoselic

Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock recently revealed his plan to release a follow-up to Strangers to Ourselves “as quickly as it’s legally allowed to be”. In a new interview with Hot Press, Brock said that the next album will be out in 2016 and will feature Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic.

It was reported in 2013 that Novoselic would be featured on the next Modest Mouse album, but that report was squashed earlier this year by Jeremiah Green. Brock says they finished tracking one of the songs he worked on and it will appear on the next album. “It fits the second piece, the companion piece to this record, a bit better.” He also revealed that Novoselic’s contribution “sounds like a bunch of boulders falling down a mountain”.

He explained that the next album was “basically” recorded at the same time as Strangers to Ourselves. Apparently, he’s considering titling the album Whatever and misspelling the word to read Whabever on the album’s cover. “I just wanted to go as dumb as fucking possible,” he said, “Mainly to be antagonistic and just ’cause I kind of thought it was funny.”
