New Documentary Teenage Superstars Features Jesus & Mary Chain, Primal Scream, More

In 2015, director Grant McPhee released The Big Gold Dream, a documentary tracking Scottish indie labels Fast Product and Postcard Records, and how they contributed to the rise of bands like Orange Juice, the Jesus & Mary Chain, and Teenage Fanclub. Now, the second installment of that “Sound of Young Scotland” series, titled Teenage Superstar, is gearing up for release. The documentary focuses on Glasgow in the ’80s and includes interviews with some of the people behind Creation Records, Teenage Fanclub, BMX Bandits, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Primal Scream. Watch the trailer below.

This is a film that shows people what they can achieve when they break the rules,” McPhee said in a press release. To complete the project, the film’s creators have launched a crowd funding campaign. They seek £20,000 or over $25,000. Besides posters, mugs, and other memorability, a donation of £1250 will earn backers an associate producer credit.
