New “Twin Peaks” to Premiere at Cannes Festival

Twin Peaks” returns to television with a two-hour premiere on Showtime on Sunday, May 21 at 9 p.m. Eastern. Today, the Cannes Film Festival announced its 2017 lineup, which includes a “Twin Peaks” screening as part of its 70th anniversary events. Two episodes will premiere at the festival, as Consequence of Sound points out. A premiere date has not yet been announced. Back in 1992, David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me premiered at Cannes, where it was famously derided by Quentin Tarantino, among others. The 2017 Cannes Film Festival takes place May 17-28. Films in competition this year include Noah Baumbach’s The Meyorowitz Stories and Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled. Find the full lineup here.

Recently, Lynch and the “Twin Peaks” reunited in costume. Follow all of Pitchfork’s “Twin Peaks” coverage here, and revisit our feature “The Discomfort Zone: Exploring the Musical Legacy of David Lynch.”
