Nick Cave Announces The Sick Bag Song, Book Written on Airplane Sick Bags

Nick Cave is publishing The Sick Bag Song, a book originally written by hand on, yes, airplane sick bags. It details his 2014 North American tour with the Bad Seeds. That’s a page from it, above. Below, watch a trailer for the book.

The Sick Bag Song is described in a press release as “a restless full-length epic, seeking out the roots of inspiration, love and meaning.” It “blends poetry, lyrics, memories, musings, flights of fancy and journal entries.”

The book will be available in two editions. The “unlimited” edition is a hardcover copy of the book that includes the audiobook (read by Cave) and the eBook. That one is out April 8. The “limited” edition includes an actual sick bag customized by Cave with “notes, doodles or lyrics,” two vinyl LPs that comprise Cave’s reading of the book, a limited edition hardcover book, and the standard edition hardcover book. That one is out June 4.

Additionally, Cave will promote the book by reading from it at three events that take place in Los Angeles (April 8), New York City (April 10), and London (April 16). The details for those events can be found here.

Next week, Cave will begin releasing five short films to accompany the book. They were directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, who helmed the 20,000 Days on Earth psuedo-documentary.
