Nicolas Jaar Teams With Gil Scott-Heron Collaborator Brian Jackson for Short Film Inspired by Michael Brown and Eric Garner

Nicolas Jaar has teamed up with longtime Gil Scott-Heron collaborator Brian Jackson to soundtrack Eleven Times, a short film inspired by Michael Brown and Eric Garner, the unarmed black men who were both killed by police in 2014. Their composition is inspired by Scott-Heron’s “Winter in America”, which Jackson originally played on. 

Directed by Samantha Casolari, the video juxtaposes video of several black men who detail their experiences with being stopped by the police. (The title refers to the number of times Garner said “I can’t breathe” before he was killed by a chokehold.) Watch it below, via Nowness
