Numero Group Announce African Music Box Set Bobo Yéyé

Numero Group have announced a new box set called Bobo Yéyé: Belle Époque in Upper Volta. The box set documents the music that emerged from the African country of Burkina Faso during its cultural revolution from 1970-1979, when it was briefly known as the Republic of Upper Volta. The three-disc compilation includes recordings from artists including Volta Jazz, Dafra Star, Echo Del Africa, Les Imbattables Léopards, and many more. The box set also includes archival photos by photographer Sory Sanlé, who captured the nation’s transformation. The announcement is accompanied by the first song, Volta Jazz’s “Wêrê Wêrê Magne.” Stream it below.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly indicated that the box set features music from between the years 1958 and 1984. The earliest recording is from 1970 and the latest is from 1979.
