One Dead, 12 Injured After Bomb Detonates Outside German Music Festival

An explosion killed one person and injured 12 others when a bomb went off just outside the entrance to a music festival in Ansbach, Germany, the Guardian reports. According to German authorities, the explosion was the result of a suicide attack; the lone death was the bomber. The authorities also say that the perpetrator had attempted to enter the festival but was denied due to his lack of ticket. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said in a statement that the bomber’s backpack was full of screws and nails, “an apparent attempt to inflict further damage” (via CNN). The festival is reported to have been immediately evacuated following the explosion.
