Pitchfork Music Festival Partners With Everytown for Gun Safety and MASK for Beats > Bullets

Pitchfork Music Festival has announced Beats > Bullets, a new partnership with Everytown for Gun Safety and Mothers Against Senseless Killings (MASK). Through the initiative, Pitchfork Music Festival will encourage Chicagoans to support the struggle against gun violence. On June 2, to honor National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the festival and its partners will participate in the Wear Orange social media campaign. We ask fans and musicians playing the festival to join in, wear orange, and share pictures with the hashtag #WearOrange. Wear Orange will also hold marches and gatherings around the country to demand changes that will reduce gun violence. Any Chicago event or organization can get involved; find more information in our online toolkit, developed with Everytown for Gun Safety.

The Wear Orange campaign commemorates Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old who was shot and killed in Chicago days after performing in President Obama’s second inaugural parade. In her memory, Hadiya’s friends and family began wearing orange, the color that hunters wear to protect themselves in the woods. The simple act turned into a nationwide movement to honor the Americans who die from gun violence every day. Now, Hadiya’s birthday, June 2, is National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

The festival will join the Wear Orange coalition’s social media campaign and invite fans and the artists playing the event to do the same. In the spirit of unity and community, the festival is proud to be joined in this effort by other major events that help define summer in Chicago, including North Coast Music Festival, Spring Awakening, Mamby on the Beach, Riot Fest, Ruido Fest, West Fest, Food Truck Social, Wicker Park Fest, Green Music Fest, and ChillFest.
