Pre-Shins Band Flake Music to Reissue When You Land Here, It’s Time to Return

Before James Mercer started the Shins, he was in a band called Flake Music. They formed in 1992 and released their only album, When You Land Here, It’s Time to Return, in 1997. Now, they’ve announced plans to reissue that album. (It was also reissued in 2002.) It’s been remixed by Kennie Takahashi and remastered by J.J. Golden, and will be out November 25 in North America and November 24 in Europe on Mercer’s label Aural Apothecary via Sub Pop.  The album also features new art. Below, listen to the remastered version of “Spanway Hits”.

Flake Music’s lineup included Jesse Sandoval, Martin Crandall, Neal Langford, and Phil Higgs. Sandoval, Crandall, and Langford would later join Mercer as members of the Shins. (As you’ll notice below, Flake Music had a song called “The Shins”.)
