President Obama Shouts Out Finland’s Metal Scene

On Friday, President Barack Obama welcomed leaders from Nordic nations to the White House for a summit and state dinner. During a speech delivered to leaders from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, he praised the strengths and exports of each nation. While discussing the virtues of Finland, he took a moment to praise one of the country’s most famous musical exports, NPR’s “All Songs Considered” points out. “I do want to point out, that Finland has perhaps the most heavy metal bands in the world, per capita, and also ranks high on good governance,” he said. “I don’t know that there’s any correlation there.” He also shouted out ABBA, Avicii, and Spotify.
