Prince Was Planning a Netflix Reality Show Prior to His Death

Prior to his death, Prince was in talks with Netflix about a Paisley Park reality show. In a new GQ feature with Prince’s close collaborators and friends, photographer Maya Washington revealed that Prince asked her for help with the prospective show. She said that she offered to participate, but only if Prince were in the program, asking him, “Why don’t you want anyone to see your sense of humor?” He told her, “Maya, I can’t be funny. I have to save the world.” Netflix confirmed to Vulture that there were discussions with Prince about a reality show. Although he didn’t want to star in his own Netflix show, Prince was certainly not camera shy. His Purple Rain film is iconic, and later in his life, he made a cameo on Fox’s Zooey Deschanel-starring “New Girl.” While viewers won’t be able to stream scenes from Paisley Park, the compound has been turned into a museum that is open for public tours. Next year, the estate will host a celebration concert on the anniversary of Prince’s death.
