Prix, Band Featuring Big Star's Alex Chilton and Chris Bell, Reissuing Rare Recordings

In 1975, Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven started a band called Prix, and during their recording sessions at Ardent Studios in Memphis, they were joined by Big Star co-founders Alex Chilton and Chris Bell. That collection of recordings, Historix, is coming next month via Hozac. Listen to “Run Run Runaway” above.

Historix also features appearances from Sparks‘ Hilly Michaels, Jim Dickinson, and others. The album was produced by Bell and Tiven.

It was previously available as a 2002 Japanese CD release. This is the album’s first ever vinyl issue. Prix released a pair of singles in 1977 and 1978, including one on Ork Records (which appeared in that label’s retrospective reissue).

Bell left Big Star after 1972′s #1 Record, though he would collaborate with Chilton a few times in the 1970s. For example, Chilton sings on Bell’s 1978 solo track “You and Your Sister.”
