Radiohead’s New Album Deluxe Edition Features Bonus Tracks, Master Tape

Radiohead‘s new album A Moon Shaped Pool is available digitally right now, and the band have now detailed the album’s physical releases, which are out June 17 and available for pre-order now. In addition to coming out on standard CD and vinyl releases, they’ve announced a special edition that comes with a CD featuring two bonus tracks and a piece of the band’s actual, original master tape from one of the band’s many recording sessions. “The tape degrades over time and becomes unplayable,” they wrote in the product description. “We thought rather than it ending up as landfill we would cut it up and make it useful as a part of the special edition. A new life for some obsolete technology.” Read more about the tape below. The special edition comes in a case bound album (“inspired by the albums for 78rpm shellac records in the library of La Fabrique, France”) with 32 pages of original artwork. The album is pressed on two heavyweight 12″ vinyl records. Find more info here.

Each loop contains about ¾ of a second of audio – which could be from any era in the band’s recording past going back to Kid A. You may have silence, you may have coloured leader tape, you may have a chorus… It’s a crapshoot. We have copies. Don’t worry.
