Red House Painters to Release Box Set

Red House Painters to Release Box Set

Mark Kozelek first came to prominence with the band Red House Painters. Now, that band’s first four albums are being collected in a box set by 4AD. That includes 1992′s Down Colorful Hill, 1993′s Red House Painters (Rollercoaster), 1993′s Red House Painters (Bridge), and 1995′s Ocean Beach (which has been expanded to include 1994′s Shock Me EP). It’ll be out on April 21 in the U.S. and April 18 (Record Store Day) in the UK. You can check out the tracklist here, and watch a video below that details the packaging.

The box set was designed by Chris Bigg, and will be limited to 1,500 copies. Each LP will be pressed on bronze vinyl.

In other Kozelek news, he joined Ben Gibbard on stage last night at Gibbard’s Noise Pop show in San Francisco, as Radio.com points out. Gibbard broke his hand last week, but rather than cancel his show, he enlisted Kozelek to play guitar. According to Gibbard, Kozelek learned all his songs in “about 12 hours.” Below, watch video of “Such Great Heights” and “Black Sun” via Consequence of Sound

Kozelek and Gibbard are known friends. They’ve shared their e-mail correspondence, and Kozelek wrote about their relationship in “Ben’s My Friend” from Sun Kil Moon‘s 2014 LP, Benji

Kozelek will release a new Sun Kil Moon album, Universal Themes, this June.
