Rock Hall 2017: Watch Pharrell’s Speech Honoring Nile Rodgers

Pharrell presented Nile Rodgers with the Award for Musical Achievement at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony last night in Brooklyn. After saying that “spiritually, he’s been in the studio with me for more than 25 years,” Pharrell discussed Rodgers’ contributions to popular music. “Whether it was his landmark work with Chic, or production for Madonna, David Bowie, Duran Duran, and countless others—Nile Rodgers never needed to be the flashy showman to try to upstage anyone. His ethos has always been putting the artist first.” Watch the speech below. The pair previously collaborated together on the 2013 Daft Punk album Random Access Memories, and specifically, the two singles “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself to Dance.” Chic were nominated for this year’s Rock Hall, but not inducted.
