Ryan Adams Talks Addiction, Skateboarding, Meeting the Stones With Marc Maron: Listen

Ryan Adams, whose new album Prisoner is out this Friday, was the latest guest on Marc Maron’s podcast “WTF.” Adams discussed encountering the Rolling Stones early in his career (and talking penny loafers with drummer Charlie Watts), his struggles with addiction in the Easy Tiger era, releasing Gold on 9/11, being raised by his grandparents, recording Prisoner in the midst of his divorce, his “brutal” skateboarding days (“[I realized] I cannot fakie anything; I cannot skate backwards”), covering 1989, and why “history was wrong about Whiskeytown,” a band that, he says, was mostly “pretty terrible.” Listen here.

Adams recently announced new tour dates for 2017 and an insane box set that features a functioning play set stage. Previous guests on “WTF” include Bruce SpringsteenKamasi Washington, Joanna Newsom, Yo La Tengo, Steve Albini, David Byrne, the Thermals’ Hutch Harris (who discussed Springsteen), and more.
