Sade Gave Drake a Birthday Present

Drake is celebrating his 30th birthday today, and he took to his Instagam account to show off one thing: a framed photo of reclusive British singer Sade, who he’s expressed his admiration for in the past. In a scrawl, a note on the photo reads, “The 24th of October 1986 was a good day… Shine on, Drake. Love Sade.” In the caption, Drake says “Woke up to see the most beautiful woman ever in my house,” and thanks Sade and OVO member Angelo Ferraro, who presumably helped organize the gift. Check it all out below.

In 2010, Drake said that he wanted to collaborate with Sade on his album Thank Me Later. “Her brand is so strong and she’s such an amazing woman,” he told MTV News. “So I just want to try to experiment and see if there’s a way to bring her into the hip-hop world.” Later on, Sade would tell Canada’s National Post that she hadn’t been contacted. “I’ve never collaborated because I’ve always avoided working outside my safety zone,” she said. “I can be exactly who I am and can fail or succeed within the moment.” Years later, Drake tweeted about the time Sade came up to him and told him she loved his song “The Motto,” calling it a “top life moment.”

Drake kicked off his birthday celebrations last night by announcing a new “playlist” project with new music, More Life, out in December. He then shared three new songs: “Two Birds One Stone,” “Sneakin’” featuring 21 Savage, and “Fake Love,” as well as a remix of Dave’s (aka Santan Dave) song “Wanna Know.”
