Sharon Jones Cancels White House SXSW Performance

Sharon Jones will not be performing at tomorrow’s inaugural White House/SXSW event, South by South Lawn. The soul singer shared via Facebook earlier today that she was at home in Georgia “recovering from pneumonia,” and is too ill to travel. Her band the Dap-Kings will perform without her, with Daptone Records acts Binky Griptite and Saun & Starr performing in her stead. 

Earlier this year, the documentary Miss Sharon Jones! was released, documenting the singer’s career in 2013 as she battled her first cancer diagnosis. After an initially successful surgery, Jones returned to chemotherapy last fall to once again battle cancer.
