Sixteen Hospitalized After Skrillex Concert

Sixteen people were taken to area hospitals during a Skrillex show at Chicago’s Navy Pier on Saturday, NBC Chicago reports. The event was attended by more than 10,000 people.

According to NBC Chicago’s EMS source, the majority of the hospitalizations were due to drug overdoses, which wasn’t confirmed by a Navy Pier spokesman. Andrew Bazos, the president of CrowdRX, the company that oversaw medical safety for the show, told NBC Chicago that the majority of the hospitalizations were for alcohol.

NBC Chicago reports that Bazos estimated that a third of the crowd at the concert were minors. “If their parents were there, they would have gone home with their parents,” he told NBC Chicago. “It’s not fair to make the promoter take care of kids who don’t know how to behave… They’re young, and they’re often irresponsible.”
