Slayer: Trump Photo “Does Not Belong on a Slayer Social Page”

Earlier today, Slayer sparked controversy when singer Tom Araya shared the below photoshopped image of the band posing with Donald Trump. In the caption, Tom Araya criticized “snowflakes commenting their distaste for the new president,” adding, “Like him or not he is the president.” Later, in the comments section, he wrote this: “Mike pence turning fruits into vegetables.” Then, after clarifying that he doesn’t speak for the whole band, he noted, “the picture did exactly what I thought it would do… piss some of you off.” Now, it appears that the rest of Slayer have distanced themselves from Araya’s post. The band shared this statement with Rolling Stone:

As was verified by Tom, this was his post, is not something the band would have posted if asked, and does not belong on a Slayer social page. We all have our personal opinions, some of which we have voiced in the past, but Slayer has never endorsed any political party or any candidate, and the band intends to keep it that way.”

As Rolling Stone notes, Araya’s bandmate Kerry King endorsed Hillary Clinton in an interview last summer, calling her “the safe, correct choice.” The guitarist also called Trump a “sideshow.”
