Sleigh Bells and Demi Lovato Settle Copyright Lawsuit

Demi Lovato and Sleigh Bells have settled their copyright infringement lawsuit, according to The Hollywood Reporter. According to the settlement filing (obtained by Pitchfork), they “are currently in the process of memorializing the terms of the agreement.” It continues, “This settlement will resolve this matter in its entirety,” if a dismissal agreement is reached within 30 days. UMG Recordings and producers Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub are among the parties who filed the settlement. Sleigh Bells originally sued back in August 2016, claiming that Lovato’s song “Stars” wrongfully took from their Treats track “Infinity Guitars.” Guitarist Derek Miller had first publicly noted the similarities between “Stars” and “Infinity Guitars” (as well as Treats’ “Riot Rhythm,” which was not included in the suit) in November 2015. At that time, Falk and Yacoub denied any sampling in “Stars.”
