Last night in Portland, the Smashing Pumpkins—including founding drummer Jimmy Chamberlain—kicked off their acoustic “In Plainsong” tour. The band’s set featured several covers, as Stereogum points out, including Hole‘s “Malibu,” a song Billy Corgan co-wrote. (Bassist Katie Cole performed the lead vocals, rather than Corgan.) They also took on David Bowie‘s “Space Oddity.” Check out footage below. As previously reported, the Smashing Pumpkins are planning to record a new album—the follow-up to 2014′s Monuments to an Elegy—after they finish the trek. Billy Corgan is also making a documentary about America.
