Smashing Pumpkins Share "Drum and Fife" Video

The Smashing Pumpkins have shared a video for their Monuments to an Elegy track “Drum and Fife”. The clip, directed by Ahlander + Antiga, details a group of children in the desert whose imaginary war games are interrupted by real-life violence. Watch it below.

In addition to the new video, the Smashing Pumpkins have announced a series of television appearances taking place this week. On April 2, they’ll perform “Drum and Fife” on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”, with the Killers’ Mark Stoermer on bass and Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk on drums. The following morning (April 3), they’ll do an acoustic version of the same track on “Good Morning America”.

Here’s what Billy Corgan had to say about the video in a press release:

I asked, albeit in an allegorical way, for the video to represent what our returning soldiers are going through with PTSD, and I feel that the directors captured that with poignancy. I couldn’t be more proud of the message we’re sending that we care what happens to those that are out there hurting.
