Solange, TV on the Radio, Questlove Set for Yale’s Bowie and Prince Celebration

Yale University is planning a special conference called “Blackstar Rising & The Purple Reign: Celebrating the Legacies of David Bowie and Prince,” which will remember the two late legends through a series of talks, concerts, roundtables, and conversations. According to a description, “lectures and roundtable discussions will examine how Bowie and Prince each championed aesthetic, social, and cultural freedom and rule-breaking in their respective repertoires and ultimately revolutionized racial, gender, and sexual identity politics in popular music culture.” The conference takes place from January 25-28. All events are free and open to the community.

Among the many events are conversations with Solange, Donny McCaslin, Sheila E., Questlove and Kimbra. “Blackstar Rising & The Purple Reign” also features other talks about experimentalism, performance, sexuality, mortality, and borders.
