Spoon Get Their Own Taco
After collaborating with L.A. restaurant HomeState for “The Ranchero” taco in 2015, Spoon have teamed up with Reyna and Maritza Vazquez of Austin, Texas’ Veracruz All Natural to create another special taco, Eater Austin reports. It’s called “El Norteño” and it comes with a fried egg (over hard), bacon, and red onions, topped with tortilla chips, poblano and red bell peppers, and Monterrey jack cheese; it’s available with either a flour or corn tortilla. (The vegetarian option lacks bacon.) All proceeds from El Norteño will be donated to nonprofit organization American Gateways, which aids Texas refugees and immigrants. The taco will be available only through the end of March. “It took a long time but we finally made it,” the band shared on Twitter, “We’re a taco.”
Spoon are not the only indie rock band to venture into this realm: Earlier this month, Best Coast paired with HomeState for “The Californian,” a taco whose proceeds benefit the ACLU.
Spoon’s new album Hot Thoughts is out March 17 via Matador. The band has previously shared the title track and “Can I Sit Next to You.” They also recently rolled out an “Aura Reader” in collaboration with Spotify, which allows fans to generate custom artwork based on their favorite Spoon songs.
